DF80

MSRP $10,599

Ten years after starting the four-stroke revolution with its award winning DF60 and DF70 outboards, Suzuki is re-inventing the category with three new models, the DF70, DF80, and DF90. As the first of Suzuki's new generation four-strokes, they are a showcase of advancements and achievements – such as digital sequential electronic fuel injection, a powerful 2.59:1 final drive ratio, and a zero-maintenance self-adjusting timing chain – that Suzuki has pioneered over the last ten years. They also feature Suzuki's proven offset drive shaft which, used in combination with a newly designed powerhead, contributes to making the DF90 the smallest and lightest four-stroke outboard in its class. This compact, lightweight design also makes any of these three outboards ideal for use on a wide range of boat types.

New to the Suzuki lineup is the DF80, an outboard that opens up more options for boaters in search of the perfect combination of power and performance. Cowlings on all three outboards feature new graphics on their sides and Suzuki's ‘S’ logo on front giving these first a new generation of four-strokes a sharp new look.

Features
Get the advantage of the most advanced 4-stroke outboard technology in the industry. Features like multi-stage induction, variable valve timing and a powerful 32-bit Electronic Fuel Injection computer that work together to optimize low-end and top-end torque. A compact, well-balanced design that fits into today’s boats.
Suzuki’s 4-stroke technology delivers clean, efficient operation that conforms to the Ultra-Low Emissions 3-Star rating from the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
Suzuki engineers are known for creating some of the most compact four-stroke outboards in their respective classes. With the DF80, they started with a clean slate, redesigning every part and component and incorporating the knowledge and technical advancements gained over the last ten years to create even lighter, more compact outboards.
Suzuki builds in convenient features that add to the quality of your boating experience. Among those features are a tilt limit switch to prevent the motor from tilting past a preset limit, dual engine flush ports for easy flushing of the cooling system, and three-piece covers that offer easy access to the engine for routine maintenance.
Suzuki's engine management system controls every aspect of the DF's engines performance. It also allows for a much more accurate control of the operation of the outboard and minimizes human error. Today's outboards are no longer purely mechanical, performance has improved dramatically by the incorporation of computer technology. The Suzuki engine management system controls the engine ignition system and provides the ideal fuel supply under all operating conditions making adjustments for engine wear and ensuring optimum performance throughout the life of the motor. It also enables engine safeguards to be incorporated such as over rev limiter, oil change reminder system and enables servicing to be simplified by using a plug-in diagnostic programme on a lap top computer to interrogate the inbuilt engine management module.
To get the most out of every drop of fuel, Suzuki engineers have designed a lean burn control system that predicts fuel needs according to operating conditions. The system achieves greater fuel efficiency and also provides a wider lean burn range that extends up into the top speed range delivering more efficient operation at cruising speeds as well.
Suzuki pioneered the use of Multi Point Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection in four-stroke outboards with the introduction of the award winning DF70 and DF60. Found on all models from the DF40 and up, the system utilizes an ECM (Engine Control Module) that constantly monitors crucial data in real time, from a comprehensive network of critically placed sensors. Using this data the ECM instantly calculates the optimum amount of fuel to be injected at high pressure into the cylinders by the Multi Point Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection system. The system delivers lower fuel consumption, reduced exhaust emissions, smoother starts, crisper acceleration, smoother performance, and maximum efficiency.
The DF80 is equipped with a new trim and tilt limit system designed to protect the boat from damage that can occur when tilting the outboard. The system incorporates a tilt angle sensor that functions as both a tilt limit and trim sender and uses a step-free, continuous type limiter that makes installation of the outboard possible on nearly any type of boat.
Suzuki set the standard with the use of an offset driveshaft with the original DF90. Effective at reducing the size of the outboard it also moves the outboard’s center of gravity forward for better weight distribution. Found on all models from the New Generation DF70 and greater, it also provides improvements in power performance, balance, and vibration reduction.
At idle, only the tell tale water jet will assure you that the motor is running. Very low noise allows you to talk normally to your passengers or crew when out on the water. Add to this very little engine vibration and you have peace and quiet to go along with a great day on the lake.
All three of these new outboards offer smoother shifting through the use of a newly designed transmission and shifting system engineered with greater precision to reduce play and noise. Using a shift sensor allows monitoring of shift action by the ECM which then controls ignition for more precise shifting.
The lower gear case utilizes a hydrodynamic design that was first introduced on the flagship DF300. As the lower unit moves through the water its sleek form reduces drag by up to 36% compared to conventional designs, contribution to fasted acceleration and increased speed.
With the Suzuki Easy Start system all you do is turn the key and release, the starter does the rest, staying engaged until the engine starts. The system also offers smoother and improved starts, more efficient combustion, and greater fuel economy.
Suzuki uses its own, original Suzuki Anti-Corrosion Finish to guard the outboard against the harmful effects of corrosion. This special formula is applied directly to the outboard’s aluminum surface to provide maximum bonding of the finish to the alloy surface. Layered on top are an epoxy, primer undercoat, black metallic finish, and clear acrylic resin finish that together, form an effective treatment against corrosion.
